HQIP is led by a consortium of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, the Royal College of Nursing and National Voices.

The National Clinical Audit and Patient Outcomes Programme
comprises more than 20 clinical audits that cover care provided to people with a wide range of medical, surgical and mental health conditions.

Engagement :

Their purpose is to engage clinicians across England and Wales in systematic evaluation of their clinical practice against standards and to support and encourage improvement in the quality of treatment and care.

As well as overseeing the management of these clinical audits, HQIP will commission new audits in areas of healthcare that are considered a priority by the new National Clinical Audit Advisory Group and by the Department of Health.

HQIP will also work with its consortium partners and with the National Clinical Audit Advisory Group to:

  • promote and enable participation in clinical audit by healthcare professionals of all disciplines and specialties and by patients and service users
  • create national and local partnerships between clinicians and patients/service users to optimise the impact of clinical audit
  • support local audit staff and create seamless links between national and local audit
  • foster active dissemination and implementation of audit results within a broader quality agenda
  • ensure that evidence about participation in audit, and the results of audit, are used for secondary purposes. These include work-based learning and to support the revalidation of healthcare professionals
  • encourage and enable audit in areas of low activity and to develop and promote links with audits outside of the NCAPOP framework
  • engage all relevant stakeholders.
