A bit about innovation
Q: What is the most significant innovation in car design in the last decade?
A: Arguably, the integral cup holder.
That might sound daft. Automatic braking and self-balancing suspension, for instance, have contributed to greatly improved safety. British motor racing engineer Paddy Lowe pioneered computerised suspension for Williams F1 in the late 1980s.
Yet three decades later his innovation hasn’t spread to be standard on all cars. It is an optional extra, in the executive car market.
