Leading charities recommend action for long term health and care plans

Fri, 20 July 2018

Thirteen leading charities and voice organisations have collaborated to publish a collection of recommendations for improving health and care – within the NHS and beyond.

The Government recently announced extra funding for the NHS in England and committed to developing a long term plan for the service. ‘Priorities for the plan’ is designed to support officials preparing the long term plan and other policies to improve health and care.

Across a number of policy areas, the authors outline the problems, what needs to happen, what is already being done well, and the one priority action that needs to be taken now.

The areas highlighted for action include prevention, multimorbidities, integration, social care, partnership with the voluntary sector, safety and accountability, health inequalities, workforce, supporting carers, volunteering, and mental health. The publication also includes recommendations for better engagement of people and communities in developing plans for health and care services.

The document has been compiled by leaders from the following organisations:

  • C3 Collaborating for Health
  • Care and Support Alliance
  • Carers Trust
  • Carers UK
  • Centre for Mental Health
  • Healthwatch England
  • National Voices
