National Voices to join new Empowering People and Communities Taskforce
Thu, 24 August 2017
Following National Voices’ efforts to push for the ‘new relationship with people and communities’ set out in the Five Year Forward View, National Voices has accepted an invitation to become a member of the new NHS England Empowering People and Communities Taskforce.
As NHS England move into the delivery phase of the Forward View, the Taskforce is developing a new partnership approach, bringing the voluntary sector and other stakeholders together, to support the empowering people and communities agenda.
The Taskforce will build on the work of the People & Communities Board (PCB).
The PCB was supported by National Voices. It had a wide representation from the voluntary sector, as well as local government, national bodies, and patient and carer experts by experience.
In May 2017, the PCB disbanded in favour of developing alternative arrangements for working with external partners. Read the correspondence between National Voices and NHS England surrounding that decision on our website.
The new taskforce is chaired by Lord Victor Adebowale, Chief Executive of Turning Point, who are also Natioanl Voices members.
Writing in the invitation letter, Sir Malcolm Grant, chair of NHS England, and Lord Victor Adebowale, said:
“The NHS England Board is clear that we can only achieve our ambitions in partnership with others, most importantly with people and communities. The Forward View recognised that the NHS needs to build different kinds of relationships in order to achieve this.”
