National Voices reacts to Brexit Vote

Fri, 24 June 2016

Jeremy Taylor, Chief Executive of National Voices, issues a statement following the UK vote to leave the EU.

Responding to the EU referendum vote, National Voices Chief Executive Jeremy Taylor has issued this statement:

In the wake of the historic Brexit vote, the business of health and care goes on. Britain has created a different future but in the here and now the need for high quality care, treatment and support for patients and their families remains.

As Brexit approaches, National Voices, with our members and colleagues in the voluntary sector, will be a voice for ensuring that all is done to protect and enhance:

  • Public funding for social care, the NHS and for health more widely
  • International cooperation on research and innovation
  • Recruitment in the health and care workforce
  • Human rights
  • Public health and the narrowing of health inequalities

We will continue to champion the development of more preventative, coordinated,  people-centred approaches to health and care. Our sector will continue to stand up for and work with the most vulnerable and disadvantaged in our society. As NCVO Chief Executive Sir Stuart Etherington has commented, we have a vital role in helping to heal the divisions that were so starkly highlighted in the referendum campaign.

And we continue to offer to work in partnership across the health and care world, where we can make common cause in the interests of the health and wellbeing of citizens.
