National Voices has joined with NHS Clinical Commissioners, the NHS Confederation, and the Centre for Public Scrutiny to back a new Checklist for Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) governance and engagement.

The checklist sets out a series of questions that can be asked locally and within boards to support effective discussion and decision-making across an STP area. Development of the document was led by NHS Clinical Commissioners and will be a useful tool for Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) lay members, non-executive directors of provider organisations, councillors, the voluntary sector, and others.

Across England there are 44 STP areas that have been tasked with developing whole system plans to transform and improve the services available to local people.

Earlier this year, the Five Year Forward View People and Communities Board, chaired by National Voices chief executive Jeremy Taylor, published ‘Six principles for engaging people and communities’. They offer practical support and guidance to leaders across the health and care system, including STP leads, as they deliver the ‘new relationship with people and communities;’ set out in the Five Year Forward View.
