Peer services for BME Groups

Here's the shared example

Canerows is a small organisation founded in 2005 under the umbrella of arts and mental health charity Sound Minds, an award winning user led social enterprise.

A peer led group, Canerows aims to improve the experiences of people from BaME backgrounds and others experiencing mental ill health in Wandsworth and South West London. Canerows inspires by example, offering support and hope through ordinary human kindness, and also ensures that the views of service users are heard by those planning and reviewing care systems.

There are several services offered within the Canerows model. The well established Ward Visiting scheme provides regular visits to 5 local mental health wards and hostels, offering talking support to inpatients and producing regular consultation reports for the CCG. Canerows also provides a post discharge peer support service, with practical and social help for people leaving hospital as well as events and opportunities for service users to meet, socialise and exchange ideas and experiences.

Canerows runs Mama Lows Kitchen, a one day user led and managed drop in that takes place on Fridays, open to all people recovering from mental health issues in Wandsworth, and free to attend.

Population groups:
