Re-designing healthcare consultations from the patient’s perspective
What would happen if we turned the consultation with your doctor, nurse or other healthcare professional on its head?
Our charity members and people with lived experience frequently tell us that meetings with healthcare professionals can be frustrating, unequal and ineffective – particularly when not enough time is spent understanding the patient’s priorities and preferences.
What would happen if we turned the consultation with your doctor, nurse or other healthcare professional on its head? If we redesigned the consultation from scratch, from your perspective? What would it look like? Would it match what happens now or would it be different?
National Voices and EACH: International Association for Communication in Healthcare are hosting a half day event for National Voices members and people with lived experience to see what you want from your consultation with a health professional.
We would like to bring together as many people as possible from organisations who have an interest in exploring how to redesign the consultation from a patient’s perspective.
This event is the start of a two year project. The eventual outcome will be to produce a more ‘patient-led’ model which can be taught to health professionals in the future, that matches what you as a patient want and need. We need your help designing it based on what matters to you.
Some of the questions we’ll be asking:
- What does a ‘good’ conversation with a health professional look like?
- How does that differ from what’s happening now?
- What would you like to be covered in the consultation?
- How much time should be spent on different topics during the conversation?
- How involved do you want to be at each stage?
Who can attend?
We want to encourage experts by experience who have a relationship with your organisation to attend, and can cover travel expenses where necessary. An expert by experience may be someone with lived experience of managing one or more long-term physical or mental health conditions; and has skills in representing the concerns of patients collectively. They may be a trustee, staff member, ambassador or someone you work with in another capacity.
If you are registering on behalf of an expert by experience, please select this ticket type on Eventbrite.
