National Voices’ response to the Delivery plan for recovering access to primary care

Jacob Lant, Chief Executive of National Voices, responds to the Delivery plan for recovering access to primary care.

  • Primary care
  • Digital health and care

GP services are the front door to the NHS, and our first port of call when we feel unwell. So we are pleased to see big everyday challenges, like the 8am rush, being tackled head-on by this plan. This is something our members, and the people and communities they work with, have called for over a number of years.

It is also positive to see enhanced use of the NHS App, remote monitoring and care navigators working front-of-house in practices, to give people more meaningful choices when accessing care both physically and digitally.

There are clearly still big systemic challenges with workforce and overall capacity, but what the recovery plan does is take a pragmatic look at what’s possible to achieve in the immediate term.

By embracing ongoing conversations with people who use services, the NHS can ensure the changes detailed in the plan drive forward the improvements we all want to see, especially around tackling health inequalities, and ensure primary care works for everyone.
