National Voices’ response to the second reading of the Tobacco and Vapes Bill

Jacob Lant, Chief Executive of National Voices responds to the second reading of the Tobacco and Vapes Bill in parliament.

  • Health inequalities

We are supportive of the Tobacco and Vapes Bill, which is now set to receive its second reading. Smoking is responsible for tens of thousands of deaths in England every year and has a devastating impact on people’s health. Ensuring the next generation of young people are unable to purchase cigarettes means they will both avoid the horrific effects of smoking on their health, and the burden and misery of addiction.

We are also pleased to see the Bill acknowledge people who want to stop smoking today, through investment into stop smoking services. It is vital these services are co-designed with and consider the needs of people across the nation in order to be successful.
