Today’s launch of our new report – Rolling out social prescribing: Understanding the experience of the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector – is the result of months of engagement with the wider community and charity sector.

Last year, we contributed to a National Voices report that looked into people’s experiences of being on NHS waiting lists. People talked about a lack of control and an inability to “get on with one’s life”. Some described “fighting” the system, and described the sense of being in an information vacuum for long periods of time.

National Voices’ Policy Manager, Tessa Fulton, shares her reflections on collaborating with ICSs to learn and improve how community engagement practices can meaningfully address health inequalities.

Disparities between communities and groups can lead to inequity in health outcomes and in the support that people receive. To truly tackle these, we need more medical research, better data, inclusive awareness and health programmes, tailored support, and campaigning. Comprehensive health charities like Breast Cancer Now need to make sure all their work is coordinated if we are going to make a difference.
