As COVID-19 impacts all of our lives, everyone across the country is now getting used to a new normal. It’s changing the way we interact with others, our ability to work, maintain our health, and how we access food, care, and medical support. At Independent Age we hear from people in later life on a daily basis and we know that many were already facing significant challenges before the virus took hold of our country.

It is no surprise to me that National Voices has reached yet another impressive milestone, as we celebrate 200 members joining the community. National Voices provides an influential collaborative to bring about practical changes in support for millions of people across the country – never has this collaboration been more needed than now.

The idea of a social contract between the NHS and the public will only work if it is based on a new ongoing, two-way relationship. This must be supported by an acceptance that the knowledge needed to fix our country’s challenges lies in communities.
