We were asked by NHS England and Improvement to explore the experience of waiting for care. We wanted to understand how waits, delays and cancellations impact on people and their families, particularly those living with long-term, multiple and chronic conditions.

Administration is a gatekeeper and enabler for quality care; when these processes go wrong, the effects go far beyond mere inconvenience.

We have been working with our members since the start of this crisis to identify and respond to the challenges people living with ongoing health and care needs are facing. We are regularly briefing system leaders (NHSE&I, CQC, RCGP, NHSX, DHSC) about what our members tell us needs to be sorted out for those with health conditions or disabilities.

This is a summary document of a technical briefing sent to policy leads and directors in NHS England. It presents a detailed account of a coherent vision for improving health and wellbeing outcomes through interlinked actions across the priority workstreams of the long term plan. Here, we pick out single key points to help the teams involved.
